Story Telling: The Adventures of a Village Hero - Otikoik

An old African proverb says, “It takes a village to raise a child.” The meaning is simple: Raising a child is not only the parents’ responsibility but also the community’s...

Otikoik was one of those village boys who had been raised by the community. Over time, he grew up to be a man of great stature. Immediately he reached marriage age, his parents and the community urged him to marry as soon as he could. Unfortunately for them, Otikoik was not a man of such a school of thought.

One day, Otikoik met a young beautiful village lady who drew his attention. Otikoik said a few lines to her and all was alright for them. It was absolutely clear that he had gathered himself a wife... Everyone in the village was happy for both of them since it was a blessing for two to become one in that village.

As days passed by, Otikoik informed his girlfriend that he had developed much appetite for goat meat. He especially had too much and an uncontrollable appetite for wild-goat meat. It was such a time that he had known that his destiny was goat meat. It is claimed that he could devour a full goat alone, in just a day's clock.

Hunting was heroic in that village and Otikoik was one of the celebrated village heroes. The love for goat meat had turned Otikoik into one of the village heroes. As months passed by, the young beautiful lady discovered that she had to live the rest of her life - cooking a goat each and every day for Otikoik. She, therefore, decided that if she was ever going to live a free life, she needed to opt-out of the marriage arrangement - before she was roped with the man.

The last days of Otikoik were around the corner when he gathered all the young villagers for a Goat-Hunt training. His aim was to secure a large number of reliable goat hunters in that village. Such that, in his old days - the loyalists would provide him with a goat each day; most goat species by the time of this story were not yet domesticated.

The final day of the training arrived and every young man was eager to bring home a goat, from their own sweat. Many goats were secured during the hunt and all were gathered in one secure place. Now, a group of leopards is known as a "leap" or a "prowl." These leopards had noticed the hunters moving with a tribe or a trip (a group of goats). The leap hid in the nearby bushes. Otikoik loved goats so much that that night, he decided to sleep in the tribe as he wanted to feel the smell of the goats till the next day - where he had the chance to eat one of them.

At midnight, the leap attacked the tribe and the leap leaders had arranged in such a way that young leopards attacked smaller goats as the older leopards attacked bigger goats. As they entered into the arena of the tribe, the leap leaders noticed a two-legged goat and they agreed to attack that one first and in unison. Otikoik was therefore seen as a goat by the leopards and was the first to lose a life in the invasion.

****************That ended the Hero in Otikoik****************

Story Telling: The Great Escape from Monotony to Excitement

A man and a woman had run away from life in Monotony land… they had decided that the only way to live a fulfilling life was to leave. The two decided to leave the human race and start a new life elsewhere. In Monotony land, everything seemed imperfect for the two. They saw everything else as boring, repetitive, and not interesting. They did not wish to keep living within a surrounding where everything about life was predictable. Especially for the man, he saw life as meaningless and had lost moral of living a few more days in Monotony land.
Never the less, Monotony land was well praised for its abundance and full of life gifts that no living thing would wish to be evicted from. Later that evening, however, they boarded a super-class jet that was the best at the time. It all started well in Monotony land – a continent they had lived for the past several decades.

On a fateful day, it was the works of the mind that convicted a man and woman to leave Monotony land. The man’s name was Ijoot and the woman’s name was Airuja. Both of these parties had what they termed ailments in Monotony land. One was suffering from sleepiness and the other, dreaminess. It is not uncommon to associate sleep with dreams. Both the two, in one way on the other, had a mutual connection. It was on the first day of the year that these two decided to leave Monotony land.

As they traveled, everything seemed real for so many days. Their source of fuel was oxygen. For as long as there was oxygen, the flight was bound to continue without obstacle. As the flight was endless and of course exciting, the course of the journey was clear: eventual happiness and life-long fulfillment. It was the turn for Airuja to take the flight forward. A dreamy person doesn’t easily see the reality of life. All they think of is living their dreams. These comrades had traveled beyond Monotony land by that time. And they had reached a new land – Desert of Deserts. Desert of Deserts had already been discovered by some Human heroes, long before Ijoot and Airuja conceived of their plan.

They never informed anyone of their expedition, back in Monotony land. As Airuja was in charge and Ijoot was, of course, asleep, a strange thing happened. Airuja, having experienced a dream of flying in a new space, one that is not colorless, saw an opportunity to experience the same in real life. She saw a brown color underneath the jet. As mentioned earlier, the only stop for the flight would be the lack of oxygen. In the Desert of Deserts, oxygen was a precious commodity. And again, what Airuja did not have any idea about was that right underneath the jet was the earth’s surface.

For her instead, due to her dreaminess, she was pretty convinced and sure that the opportunity to fly in colorful space had presented itself. Without wasting time, she triggered the jet in the direction of that colorful arena. At the time, she accelerated to the maximum and sloped steeply towards that direction. After a long while, Ijoot’s sleep was disappearing and he was in his senses. When he noticed how brown the direction of their flight was, he asked Airuja if she knew exactly where they were headed. The challenge was that Ijoot, a sleepy man had never traveled beyond Monotony Land and even within Monotony land, his knowledge of scenic beauties was lacking since he always traveled while sleeping.

Airuja traveled through her dreams and was now realizing her dreams, through this expedition. And as the jet kept sloping, the two felt life and life beyond measure. When the jet was reaching Desert of Deserts, the atmosphere of dust covered the jet and at that moment, they felt fulfilled and they had found a new life, life that had never been lived before.
